Getting Rid Of Waste The Right Way

House Clearance In Brighton

Did you know that the average UK household handles and removes 400 kg of waste each year? That’s most households, let alone businesses and organisations that will likely dispose of even more. This is why it is essential to be conscious of how you dispose of your waste. There are a number of techniques that you can implement to help ease the strain of all the waste sent to landfill and other decomposition practices.

Where Does The Waste Go?

Waste is inevitable, whether it’s used for packaging or for physical items that need disposal. We have progressed and advanced tremulously over the past few decades, and with that came the dramatic increase of plastic being produced. When you have plastic that no longer has a purpose you probably throw it straight in the bin or recycling. Once your waste has been collected and transported to a recycling or disposal centre the waste is either incinerated or compressed and buried. Whilst this seems ideal, it has detrimental effects on the environment.

Incinerated waste combusts into greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. On the other hand, most waste is sent to landfill. Once the waste has been compressed it is buried up to 500ft in the ground. Certain materials such as plastics can take up to 500 years to decompose. Organic waste produces bacteria which break the rubbish down into weak acidic chemicals that form dangerous gases and leachate. Over time the toxins can begin to leach into surrounding soils and groundwater, becoming environmental hazards.

Recycling

Recycling is a great way to reduce the strain on landfill operations. Of course, not all waste can be recycled, but making a conscious effort to recycle everything that can serve another purpose is a necessary step towards a greener future.

Composting

Composting is another effective method of removing leftover organic waste and food. This form of waste disposal benefits the planet as well as the health of your garden,  largely reducing methane emissions as well as the need for chemical fertilisers for plants and shrubbery in your garden.
